Gates Los Angeles’s young lead designer is an old hand at architectural design. Designing beautiful creations throughout her childhood, she got an early start in her study of building design by enrolling in her high school’s innovative architecture school as a sophomore — one of the few girls in the class.
She did so well that the prestigious Woodbury School of Architecture credited her for those studies and graduated her with her bachelors in 2008.
Since then she has never stopped working: designing in various fields, from urban planning to buildings.
As a project manager, she has been involved with various architectural projects, including the Step Up on Vine affordable housing project and an International Finance Bank Headquarters high end commercial project.
Crystal has also worked for several celebrities, including projects for Hilary and Susan Duff in Los Angeles.
Crystal’s forte is her ability to connect with our clients’ own creative visions and bring them to the drafting board and then, with exact specifications, as a step-by-step plan to our fabricating teams.
We personally think that this fellow is one of the best gate designers in the world.
He would never have thought so. We don’t know that he’d ever even thought about a driveway gate throughout his entire life.
But some of his admirers had thought a lot about a driveway gate and the security that it would bring to their family. And, they wanted something distinctive and different that would also enhance the beauty of their home. This man was their inspiration.
Allow us to introduce Piet Mondrian (March 7, 1872 – February 1, 1944). Wikipedia tells us that “(Piet) was an important contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group… ” and that “He evolved a non-representational form which he termed Neo-Plasticism. This consisted of white ground, upon which was painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and the three primary colors.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet_Mondrian)
“Composition A” by Piet Mondrian
To be perfectly honest with you, we’d never heard of M. Piet Mondrian until we were conferring with our client about the design of the gates that she wanted us to fabricate and install. She handed us a drawing that looked very much like the image you see here on the right.
We discussed the dimensions of the gates (a driveway gate and pedestrian gate), and worked out a rough draft on paper with a few colored marking pens.
They loved it. We then took it to our fabrication team to discuss materials, finishes and get the exact dimensions of every piece of the mosaic aspects of this design; after showing this to our couple, they loved it even more. We fabricated and installed the gate within the next couple of weeks.
Our clients did not know many of the neighbors until this gate was installed. Within a couple weeks, that had changed. Everyone absolutely loves it. It slows traffic in the area as it is such a pretty thing to see. Should they ever want to sell their home, it has undoubtedly markedly increased its value.
There’s something very special about you and your family… and your gates can be a reflection of that.
Right now a gorgeous custom made home that fully reflects who you are might be financially out of the question. That might cost hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars.
But if you have the sort of property and safety requirements that a gate would benefit, there’s a lot that can be said about you without remodeling your home.
Professionally Designed Gates
We are more than pleased to assist you with the design of your gate.
As an example of the unique types of design that a professional designer can give you, please take a look at Jon Krawczyk’s tab to view some of his recent residential gates. Jon is a sculptor whose works are in galleries and private collections around the world. From his bio: “Jon Krawczyk pushes the boundaries of his medium and transforms steel and bronze …”
“Krawczyk draws inspiration from renowned artists such as Picasso, Henry Moore and David Smith. He is not only influenced by the obvious masterful techniques of these artists, but also by their philosophies of the sculptural process.”
“…Krawczyk has studied fine art throughout Europe and apprenticed with various acclaimed sculptors. Krawczyk¹s sculptures have been exhibited in galleries and public arenas across the nation, and are part of several private international collections.”
Awaken the “Master Artist” Within You!
Many of our world’s greatest artists remarked about how they were influenced by the masters before them. It doesn’t matter if you are a very competent artist or someone who can barely manage stick figures; when it comes to what you admire artistically, you know it.
A husband and wife team wanted a gate for security reasons but decided that the typical gate just did not suit them. So they poured through their coffee table art books and found several famous painting that they thought might be incorporated nicely into their gates. They finally whittled the list down to a couple of works by 20th century modernist Piet Mondrian. You can see the final gates under the Piet Mondrian tab on this page.
We also are happy to work with you to take any image, sketch or favorite theme and incorporate that into your gate and fence. See the “Vision Gate” tab.
If you look at the graphic above, you’ll see that there is a “Click to Upload” link. If you want to run your idea by us to see if it’s “do-able”, go ahead and click there and you’ll be taken to a page where you can upload your image. We’ll look it over and get back to you within a day or two.
